4/20/2019

Matthew 11:25-30 (Click to read)
Preacher:  John Paul Westin

Questions for Personal and Small Group Considerations on the Sunday Gospel Reading (Matthew 11:25-30) taken from the Serendipity Bible:
  • What room in your place is the hardest to keep up? Which is the most relaxing?
  • Why is the gospel hidden from the "wise and learned"?
  • What does Jesus mean by taking up his "yoke"? By the "rest" he promises those who do?
  • Is Jesus' yoke resting lightly on you, or are you struggling to get out from under it? Why? How does taking up his way lead to rest?

A Path Away from Wrath

John 2:13-17 (Click to Read)
PReacher: Terence Chandra

Questions for Personal and Small Group Considerations on the Gospel Reading (John 2:13-25) taken from the Serendipity Bible:
  • Why was Jesus angry (Ps. 69:9)?
  • As one of the sellers, how would you feel about Jesus' actions? As one of the disciples, how would you feel?
  • How is Jesus challenged (v. 18)? Why? What effect does his response have on them?
  • Why doesn't Jesus entrust himself to the crowd (v. 23-25)?
  • If you compare your spiritual life to the rooms of your house or apartment, which room do you think Jesus might want to clean up? Why? What goes on in that room?
  • What makes you angry? Why?

Mark 6:30-44 (CLick to Read)
Preacher: John Paul Westin

Questions for Personal and Small Group Considerations on the Sunday Gospel Reading (Mark 6:30-44) taken from the Serendipity Bible:
  • The disciples thought they were getting a break (v. 31) but they ended up serving. If you were one of the disciples, how would you have felt?
  • What is the difference between the way Jesus looked on the crowd and the way the disciples viewed them?
  • Why would Jesus tell the disciples, "You give them something to eat" (v. 37)?
  • What would you feel as a disciple when you gathered the leftovers? What was the lesson to be learned?
  • How has Jesus fed you when you've been spiritually hungry lately?
  • When you sense that hunger, do you get "hangry", do you come searching for him, or do you usually try to fill up on something else first? If so, what?
  • If you went to a solitary place with Jesus, what would you talk about?

A Path Away from Envy

I Corinthians 12:14-27 (Click to Read)
Preacher: Jasmine Chandra

Our apologies for the poor sound quality this week!
Questions for Personal and Small Group Considerations on 1 Corinthians 12:14-27 taken from the Serendipity Bible:
  • Describe yourself as a “part” of the body of Christ (an eye, hand, etc. Why did you select that part
  • Why is v. 12 such a good illustration of v. 13?
  • Read v. 26. How good are you at hurting with a fellow believer who is suffering and rejoicing with a fellow believer who is honoured? Which comes easier for you?
  • How connected are you to your church body? What could you do to help “the body” function better?
  • How do you (or could you) use your gifts and abilities within the church? What holds you back from using your gifts more fully?

A Path Away from Gluttony

Matthew 11:16-19 (Click to read)
Preacher: John Paul Westin

We are not able to post a recording of this week's sermon.  Our apologies!  Nevertheless, questions for reflection on the gospel text are below.
Questions for Personal and Small Group Considerations on the Sunday Gospel Reading (Matthew 11:16-19) taken from the Serendipity Bible:
  • In what ways is a Christian free (vv. 23-24)? How do you exercise your freedom in Christ?
  • Is there anything you do that does not bother your conscience but might bother the conscience of someone else?
  • Verses 27-33 describe what a believer should do in a relationship with an unbeliever. Do you act differently around Christians and non-Christians? If so, under what circumstances?

A Path Out of Pride

Mark 10:35-45 (Click to Read)
Preacher: Terence Chandra

Questions for Personal and Small Group Considerations on the Sunday Gospel Reading (Mark 10:35-45) taken from the Serendipity Bible:
  • Why do you think James and John asked for this special honour (v. 37)?
  • What view of the kingdom are James and John still clinging to? How could they respond like this in light of vv. 33-34?
  • What cup and baptism is Jesus talking about in v. 39?
  • What made the other disciples indignant?
  • How does Jesus use this uproar to convey new insights into his greatness?
