The good news of the Christian faith isn’t something for Christians to keep to themselves but, rather, something to be shared. Three times in Matthew 28, Christians are told to go out and tell others the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. Trans World Radio (TWR) is a Christian broadcasting organization that’s doing just this. Indeed, their very calling is “to reach the world for Jesus Christ by mass media so that lasting fruit is produced.” Today for Mission Sunday we welcome Steven Shantz, TWR’s Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean. Over the course of the next few minutes, he’ll give us some insight not only into his own ministry, but the vital ministry that TWR is engaged in.

Today, on the 2nd Sunday in the season of Easter, we continue to celebrate our Lord’s resurrection. Through him, we have victory over sickness, sin and death. Through his life-saving death and resurrection, we can face these challenging times in a spirit of hope.

Today is also mission Sunday. Our guest speaker is Rev. Eric Phinney, a former member of our congregation and priest here in this diocese. After the service, he will be sharing about the Seafarers Mission — a ministry with which he has served for many years.

Take out your Bible and look up the scripture. Over the next week we invite you to sit down (by yourself or even better) with your small group, a friend, family member or soul-mate, and (think about) discuss the following questions:

When have you been alone in the "desert"? How can it help to know that Jesus has been there?
What is the difference between being lonely and being alone?
If the devil were to target you for temptation, which area of your life would he focus on? Physical temptations, financial temptations, ambition/power, your self-identity, your relationships, other things?
When do you find yourself most vulnerable to the tempter? When you are tired or under stress, when you're alone, after a spiritual high, when you're not expecting it, when you let your mind dwell on certain things?
How do you deal with temptation? Give in to it, fight it off, ask for God's help, beat yourself up with guilt, get your mind off it, talk to someone about it?
What has helped you overcome temptation when it comes? Scripture, telling someone about it, talking yourself out of it, prayer, running away?
